Thrice Announces Farewell Tour Dates

After 13 years together, Thrice has decided to call it quits. Well, officially it’s an indefinite hiatus, but these things have the tendency to last indefinitely, so it may be best to assume that’s that, and then you won’t be disappointed down the road. But, before it’s over, they’re going to do it up right with a farewell tour.

Their final tour licks of in San Diego on May 4, traveling throughout the country before finishing up back home for the band with two nights at Anaheim’s House of Blues and their very last show at LA’s Club Nokia.

Along the way, the band will be recording at select dates for a live album of the tour, expected to release sometime in late 2012.

Metallica has announced that they’re launching their own music festival, and this one’s not just about metal.

On June 23-24, 2012, they’ll be kicking (and headlining) the Orion Music + More Festival at Bader Field in Atlantic City, NJ, and based on the lineup announced so far, this will vie with any festival out there this year.

In addition to Metallica (who are headlining both nights, celebrating 20th anniversary of the Black Album by playing it in its entirety on one night and playing all of their classic Ride the Lightning for the first time ever the other night), the lineup so far includes such acts as The Gaslight Anthem, Fucked Up, Avenged Sevenfold and Lucero.

Andrew WK announces his ‘I Get Wet’ 10th Anniversary Tour

If you were sitting there wondering whether it was time to party, the answer is most certainly a resounding “yes,” with the news that Andrew WK will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of his essential party rock album I Get Wet with a tour where he’ll be performing the album in its entirety.

With tracks like “It’s Time To Party,” “Party Hard” and “Party Til You Puke,” there was never any question about what the album was about (Listen/Download), and Andrew WK’s energetic live shows hammered that point home. I’ve caught him several times over the years and have always been blown away, but there’s no reason to doubt that this performance of I Get Wet from front to back (an album that made our Top 20 List For the Decade) could quite possibly be the most high strung performance that he has yet to deliver.

Dates have been announced for the US, Canada and the UK, and my hope is that he’ll hit Europe. Even if he doesn’t, I’m sure I’ll feel the party vibes all the way to the Netherlands.

Poison Idea announces tour dates and a rerelease of old material…

I’ll admit that I was a latecomer to Poison Idea, my first exposure being their incredible cover of “Up Front” on the 1993 tribute box set 8 Songs for Greg Sage and the Wipers – which has since been released on CD as 14 Songs For Greg Sage and the Wipers, and is a tribute to a great band by a bunch of other great bands – really worth owning (compare prices). But after that first exposure, I found myself seeking out more by the Oregon hardcore band.
